Due for a UK launch in March 2013, the new ŠKODA Octavia Hatchback is bigger, broader and smoother than ever before.
There has already been significant demand for the new Octavia Hatch, and, looking at the new model, that’s hardly surprising. Having been redesigned by Design Chief Jozef Kabaň and his team, the car features a distinctively refined look, with modernised bodylines and an extended wheelbase to allow for extra space – up to 1,508 litres with the seats down. The Octavia’s athletic appearance does not mislead, as the new model is 120kg lighter than previous models.
Motorists can expect a suitably polished interior, with generous space, an ergonomically arranged dashboard, and a multifunction leather steering wheel as standard. The electrically controlled sunroof is complimented by a sunscreen that prevents light from dazzling the interior, and the ŠKODA Octavia Hatch includes, as standard, an eight-inch touch screen information system.
With enhanced aerodynamics, a lighter frame, and plethora of new technologies, it’s no wonder that the new Octavia Hatch boasts an engine that is stronger, and more efficient, than ever before. There are two petrol (1.2 to 1.4 litres) and two diesel engines (1.6 to 2.0 litres) to choose from, and the addition of Stop/Start and energy recovery systems helps them to recycle energy. A maximum speed of 134mph, with 0-60 in less than nine seconds, shows the kind of pace better associated with a sports car, and motorists can opt for a DSG gearbox, enabling 62.8mpg combined fuel economy. For drivers with an eye on the environment the new Octavia Hatch is capable of as little as 99g/km CO2 emissions.
“This is one of my cars of the year, without a doubt.”, commented Ken Gibson from The Sun newspaper, and the model has just reached a milestone, as ŠKODA’s 15 millionth production vehicle was recently announced as a 2013 Octavia, produced at the Mladá Boleslav plant.
ŠKODA has confirmed a total of 8 new or facelifted models for 2013, with the new Octavia Hatch leading the group in style.
